Northwest Knitter

Hi! I am am a 4th year medical student, sailor, and knitter in Seattle, WA. If all goes as planned, knitting and playing with boats will keep me sane while in school! Recently, I have gotten woo'ed by "going green" and am doing my best to improve and consume/waste less...

first week back from spring break

I thought I would be able to flash it like the rest of you out there this week, but the first week of class is getting the better of me. No stash pictures until the weekend, I'm afraid. The tough classes are Neuro and Microbiology, and I am expecting a serious "info dump" this term. In addition, being the first week back it is serious recruitment time for the sailing club. I have this little problem with overbooking myself, and now I have agreed to teach TWO sailing classes this quarter. What was I thinking?!

Anywho, I am looking forward to "round one" of yarn dyeing this weeking. Pictures coming soon.

dyeing yarn has arrived!

A big box of white yarn from KnitPicks has arrived today, so that the knitting group can proceed with our KoolAid yarn dyeing party soon. All together, we ordered 25 skeins! Self-striping sock yarn coming right up... If anybody has good tips/tricks for this project, please let us know!! Just use your imagination:

I also finally just finished a pair of socks for my grandmother (second try -- the first ones were a bit small/short...). Koigu knits up so nicely! Only 5 more pairs to dispatch my Christmas 2005 obligations. I sure could use another few days of uninturrupted knitting time!

knitting out at the cabin

Ross and I spent the last two days out at the cabin on Hood Canal. I got a lot of knitting done out there, in addition to eating deep-fried oysters on the beach for the first time. It was spectacular and sunny the whole time, and it was great to have no time pressures whatsoever. I did learn a new lesson, though: knitting by campfire/lantern does NOT increase my accuracy... I finished my red hat (di.Ve' Teseo wool/microfiber) with plenty of yarn left for the matching scarf, with a few *charming* mistakes courtesy of the darkness.

I also got some work done on my sweater (blue Silky Wool, pattern in Knitter's Stash)...
...and my sock (SweetGeorgia Black Orchid speed demon sock yarn). So far so good! I just need to finish a few more warm things before my trip up north...

first post!

Time to take this new blog for a test-drive! Hopefully I will get some photos of my current knitting projects up soon, in time for the 1st of April. Knitting RN's beautiful stash photos inspired me to get my act together and get a blog going so that I can show off my recent knitting progress. I sure do love spring break! I'm not sure if I am quite ready to go back to classes next week...
